American Auto Shield Offers FTC Assistance in Ending Robocalls
May 18th, 2009 Posted in News / General InformationOn May 14, 2009, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed complaints in the U.S. District Court against several companies allegedly using robocall and other illegal telemarketing tactics as a way of selling Vehicle Service Contracts. In our continuing effort to proactively address our mutual concerns regarding illegal telemarketing and high pressure sales methods, American Auto Shield (AAS) contacted the FTC to explain our company’s position in the automotive aftermarket industry, and to offer our assistance in helping to stop illegal telemarketing sales methods.
In addition, American Auto Shield’s legal council also issued letters to the companies named in the lawsuit, demanding that they list the automotive aftermarket client’s they have provided service to.
- American Auto Shield vendors sign strict agreements clearly outlining our policy regarding telephone solicitation, including our no tolerance policy concerning illegal telemarketing and high pressure sales methods. To ensure customer service satisfaction, American Auto Shield also proactively conducts its own routine compliance regulation inquiries into its vendor services. If American Auto Shield determines and/or is provided proof that any of our clients use illegal sales methods, such as robocalls, we will cancel that client immediately.
Consumers can place their phone number on the federal do not call list by visiting www.donotcall.gov. If the consumer is already on the list but continues to receive telemarketing calls, he or she can use the same website to report the incident to the FTC.
American Auto Shield is a member of the Automotive Warranty Service Contract Association (AWSCA) and has also teamed with them to help protect consumers from marketers selling Vehicle Service Contracts illegally. If you feel you’re a victim of illegal marketing tactics or if you have any additional information that you feel could help our nation’s effort to stop illegal telemarketing sales methods, please visit our website www.americanautoshield.com or contact us at info@americanautoshield.com. Please also feel free to contact AWSCA at www.warrantybestpractices.com. They will launch an investigation into the matter.
